MEET OUR PASTOR

Rev. Jeff Carr

Jeff Carr began his ministry here on July 1, 2007.  Jeff and his wife Patti recently moved to Washington from the Creve Coeur area.  Jeff has been the pastor of the Maplewood Methodist Church with additional responsibilities of assisting with the transition of the Immanuel Methodist Church to become The Gathering, which is now led by Matt Miofsky, Tom and Gail’s son.

Jeff grew up in North St. Louis County in the Marvin Park United Methodist Church.  Like most young Methodists who feel a call to the ministry, Jeff was recommended by his church’s charge conference for a license to preach in 1969.  Jeff graduated from Taylor University in 1971 with a B.A. in history and a focus in speech and drama.  Upon graduation, he entered the Asbury Theological Seminary in Wilmore, Kentucky and was a student there for two years.  He finished his seminary training at Saint Paul School of Theology in Kansas City, MO, where he graduated with a Master of Divinity degree in 1977 and was ordained as an elder in 1978.

Since his first assignment as a student pastor thirty-three years ago, like most career Methodist ministers, Jeff has served at a number of pastoral appointments.  Before being appointed to the Maplewood Methodist Church in St. Louis, Jeff was pastor at Charbonier, Linn-Chamois-Bonnets Mill, Vinita Park, Hillsboro and Warrenton.  He also served as associate pastor at First St. Charles, Manchester and Salem in Ladue.

During Jeff’s ministerial career, he has had a special interest in and focus on youth ministry.  Along the way, he served as director of summer church camps at both Epworth and Blue Mountain.  He has led several work camps in both the City of St. Louis and rural Kentucky.  Jeff is anxious to get involved with the youth and youth leaders in our church.

Jeff enjoys reading, swimming at the “Y”, hiking, bicycling, tennis and studying history, especially Native American history.  Jeff’s wife, Patti, is also an avid “Y” member and they often arrange their schedule so they can work out together.

During the week, Patti is the Executive Assistant to the Chairman of World Wide Technology in the City.  They will have been married for ten years on June 14.  They each have two children from previous marriages who are grown and out on their own.

Jeff and Patti have both expressed their anticipation and excitement about the opportunity to be a part of the First United Methodist Church of Washington.  We are excited about having them join us in our mission as a church and we are looking forward to getting to know them better and allowing them to get personally acquainted with all of us.  Jeff and Patti, welcome to Washington.
